The latest update from our 8 am teleconference this morning. Hurricane Irma as of 5 am this morning is listed as a category 1 hurricane with winds at 75 MPH. It is moving at a NW direction. It is projected to reduce to a tropical storm sometime this morning, and to a tropical depression by Tuesday afternoon. It is now in the Florida area and expected to reach southern Ga. this afternoon. The coast of South Carolina is being affected today also. The biggest effect of this storm on the Atlanta area will take place from midafternoon today through early morning tomorrow around 5 or 6 am. Our area is expected to get rain with winds and may receive considerable tornados from this storm. The mountain areas of Western NC are expected to be affected. There are a few post offices in SC and Ga. that do not have power at this time.
This is still a massive storm. Please prepare for you and your families safety. I ask if you haven’t updated your emergency contact information, please do so. Please be flexible and understanding as possible as we try to work through this crisis. As things are looking better for our area, we may be required to work other areas mail. Your safety is first and foremost. I will be updating you as often as possible.
